Project SAFE’s Responding to Crime Victims with Disabilities: A KY Resource Guide

Description:
The Project SAFE (Safety and Accessibility for Everyone) Network is a multi-disciplinary collaboration of professionals working together to end domestic and sexual violence against individuals with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities are at greater risk of being sexually assaulted or sexually abused. Studies indicate that people with disabilities are especially vulnerable to different forms of violence and face unique barriers to receiving needed help.

Safe Kids KY

Description:
Safe Kids KY is part of the global organization dedicated to preventing injuries in children resulting from motor vehicles, sports, drowning, falls, burns, poisonings, and more. Children with disabilities have a higher risk of unintentional and intentional injuries and this organization is willing to do in services to local, area or state organizations on how to prevent injuries and the loss of a child. Based on the needs of the community, this coalition implements evidence-based programs, such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops and sports clinics, that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.

Spina Bifida Association of Kentucky (SBAK)

SBAK is a resource center that provides free services and programs to children and adults with Spina Bifida and their families. SBAK’s mission is to promote the prevention of Spina Bifida and to enhance the lives of all affected.

TASH Disability Advocacy Worldwide

Description:
TASH is an international leader in disability advocacy striving for fully inclusive schools, workplaces, and communities. TASH advocates for human rights and inclusion for people with significant disabilities and support needs ΓÇô those most vulnerable to segregation, abuse, neglect and institutionalization. TASH works to advance inclusive communities through advocacy, research, professional development, policy, and resources for parents, families and self-advocates. The Chesser Advocacy Group

Description:
This Group is for anyone who has mental or physical challenges. A place where people can talk to like-minded individuals and not worry about being discriminated against or made fun of.

The Council for Exceptional Children

Description:
The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities and/or gifts and talents. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides professional development, advocates for individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

The Council on Developmental Disabilities (Louisville)

Description:
An association of families and friends of persons with developmental disabilities with a 50 year history of advocacy involvement including parent outreach and citizen advocacy programs. In the fall of 2002, the Council opened the Leadership Institute, established to educate for leadership, service and advocacy.
